For lovers of international crime fiction, June has been busting out all over with a series of readings, panels, and discussions sponsored by four indie publishers and featuring such rising stars as Britain’s Mark Billingham, Austria’s Wolf Haas, Australia’s Zane Lovitt, and Nigeria’s .Bayo Ojikutu. Kicked off at the end of May with events at New York City bookstores and BookExpo, International Crime Month was launched to highlight new titles from Europa’s new World Noir imprint, Melville House’s International Crime imprint, Akashic Books’ “Noir” series, and Grove Atlantic’s Mysterious Press imprint. The initiative winds down tomorrow in Chicago at the ALA 2013 summer conference. Saturday June 29 is Mystery Day at the Pop Top Stage, and Billingham, Haas, Lovitt, and Ojikutu are scheduled to appear at 1pm.
